Benjamin's newest game is to let water spill out of his mouth and onto his clothes.
Benjamin has developed a new habit with his sippy cup that I’m not too fond of, because it requires me to change his clothes. If I give him a sippy cup of water, he is more interested in letting all the water drain out of his mouth onto his clothes than he is in drinking it. Thankfully, he hasn’t done this with milk or juice – yet.
Despite my frustration, I couldn’t help but be amused at the same time. And so, before taking him to get changed, I grabbed the camera and took a quick video of him standing in the playroom with his clothes ridiculously soaked. He didn’t have much to say for himself, other than “bbbbrrrrrrllllbbbb.” I think that meant, “Hey, Mom. It’s fun to get my clothes all wet!”
In other news, I had a successful first day of school yesterday, and Benjamin took a morning nap while he was at Aunt Cara’s house. That is pretty much a miracle, since he has refused to nap there since he was about 8 months old. Hopefully it was a sign of things to come rather than just a fluke.
Here’s the video of Benjamin after his latest sippy cup incident. Like I always say, he’s a messy mess.
This week’s activities included putting the finishing touches on my syllabus, having our neighbors over for dinner, and keeping Jacob and Anna while Cara took Joel to “Kindergarten Camp.” Here are a few pictures I took over the past few days. None of them are of my syllabus, but I can send you a copy of it you are interested. I start my classes on Monday, so our whole routine will be different for the next 16 weeks. I’m sure you will hear all about it on here.
I was proud of my berry trifle, which I made when our neighbors came over for dinner. I added some kiwi to add another color to the mix.
Whenever Jacob comes over to our house, he loves to play Mario Kart. He’s getting really good at it!
Anna may have a career in animal control in her future. As I took this picture she was telling me: “I made a bear trap. This bear is never gonna get out.”
“Jungle Jeep” has been Benjamin’s favorite book lately, but he’s always slightly disturbed by the “surprise sound” as he turns to the last page.
Benjamin looks on as Anna adds another layer of entrapment to the bear’s shackles.
Anna spent a long time snuggled up under this cozy blanket reading “One Fish Two Fish…”
I snuck a picture of Anna while she wasn’t looking. She really enjoyed that book!
So I finally managed to take some more video of Benjamin. We’ve been having some issues with short camera battery life that have made me less enthusiastic than I used to be about taking pictures and videos. My motivation today was that there are certain cute things Benjamin is doing that I wanted to capture on camera. In this video, you will see him saying “no” and vigorously shaking his head, and also saying “bye bye” as he scurries from one adventure to the next. He’s still a very busy boy, and when he’s awake he’s rarely sitting still.
You have to use your imagination a bit to hear him say “no.” He often slurs the beginning and end when he says it, but you’ll have several chances to hear it in this video. “Bye bye” is much clearer. Enjoy the video!
We’ve been busy lately, I suppose, which is why I haven’t updated the blog in awhile. What’s been on our agenda? To name a few items: a visit from Mama C, helping out friends who just became parents for the first time, and planning my fall classes (I apologize that that list had absolutely no parallel structure! I need to dust off my writing skills before I step into the classroom in three weeks.)
Thankfully, I don’t have a lot of writing to do today, so you’ll be spared my rusty grammar and shabby writing style. Just a few pictures of Benjamin, to show how he is growing!
Benjamin and Van have had fun playing together lately.
Mama C surrounded by all her Dallas grandkids
Benjamin's favorite thing to do with Mama C is to read.
Benjamin loves to snuggle with Chloe. I simply must capture it on video because it is so sweet!
The pool has been a welcome relief from the heat.
Benjamin loves to splash Daddy with water.
I’ll try to do better with posting over the next few weeks. Check back every once in awhile, and I’ll try to have something waiting for you.
